Social Networking Beyond MySpace – Making Social Networks a Valuable Tool
Remember when one of the best ways to learn something was by standing around the water cooler? While that might still work in some organizations, if you try that for too long in many companies you might soon be standing around the unemployment line. Today’s fast-paced organizations require individuals to move at a much quicker pace. That, coupled with the rapid growth of information, means we must learn faster and be more productive than ever before. Oh…and don’t expect the pace to slow down.
There is however much good news. The rapid growth of technology, particularly the internet and associated Web 2.0 tools, has given rise to many ways to network that were not possible just five or ten years ago. Social networking is not only a way to keep track of what your friends are doing at two in the morning. Social networking also provides an avenue to information that, if exploited, can greatly increase your ability to get the right information just when you need it.
